Book Cake Book Tag

After a little bit of debate (and decision-making with my friend Jacquelyn), I've decided to do the Book Cake Tag as my first tag! :D

This is technically making a cake out of books, so we're using books as the ingredients of the cake.

Ingredient One: Flour
Represents a book that starts off slow but really speeds up.

My 'flour' book would have to be Ready Player One. I didn't really know what to expect when I read this book, except that I knew I wanted to read it due to a lot of hype around it on Goodreads in one of my challenges. So I gave it a shot, and holy moly it is incredible!! The world-building and explanations and descriptions at the start were a little hard to pay attention to, but then it took off straight away. The themes in it, the action and suspense and the plot twists (and these are real plot twists, not YA plot twists!) were just unreal. There's also a movie coming out soon, not too sure how I feel about it. I know so many people who could not put this down, me included.
This is recommended for everyone!!

Ingredient Two: Butter
Represents a book that has a really rich and deep plot.

For 'butter' I have to go with Uprooted. Now, I have to say I didn't really like this book, which I know is going to cause some upset :p It just wasn't really for me. It was really full on at times, with such a complex deep plot I didn't understand what was happening. I couldn't follow it. It was quite a chunky read, and although I feel like a re-read will really help, that won't be happening any time soon. I do need to give it another chance though.

Ingredient Three: Eggs
Represents a book I thought would be bad but actually wasn't (tricky for me...)

My 'eggs' would have to be the Pretty Little Liars series. I really went into this expecting a typical fluffy bleh contemporary, as I haven't seen the tv show either, and the first book kind of pulled through with that for me. It was just as I was reaching the second and third books that I felt that pull to the series, that anticipation and need to know what was coming next. I'm currently up to the fourth one, and I need to read it soon, but I'm buddy-reading it with others, so I'm waiting for them :) It is a little confusing though, what with the jumping between 4 POVs, and as their relationships intertwine, that confusion and need for focus increases, but it's so gripping!

Ingredient Four: Sugar
Represents a book that's sickly sweet

Okay this is tricky for me, as I don't typically read ugh romance books, but I decided to go with The Selection series, particularly The Crown. Once again, I went into this series with not that much expectation, especially the second part of it, after America. But I have to say I'm one of the very rare people who preferred Eadlyn's POV and story to America's! Probably because America's outcome was just so clear, while it was uncertain who Eadlyn would pick for ages! These were just such light-hearted books, I adored all of them. Quick reads, but full of suspense and banter and I was just so enthralled with the characters, and the relationships. Definitely need to read these again at a later date.

Ingredient Five: Icing
Represents a book that covers everything I love in a book.

Oh wow okay. Uhhhhmmmmm I kind of want to say Ready Player One but I can't :p I've used it already... This is really hard!! Alright Empire of Storms, you're up! When I read this, I couldn't put it down. The last few books in this series actually kind of blended for me, but a lot of the events from Empire of Storms just stuck. The reasons I picked this: big fantasy aspects, incredible plot twists, realistic relationships, cute moments, badass moments, relatable moments, emotional moments, hold-my-breath moments, just the whole shebang. Wow. Actually writing this right now, I just want to re-read these. I loved this book, which surprised me, because I didn't know I liked this book that much haha.

Ingredient Six: Sprinkles
Represents a pick-me-up book or series

Well, isn't this sad... I can't think of one... :p I might have to go right back and say Shiver.. I've re-read this one I think 3 or 4 times, but I only recently got around to finishing the series. If you haven't finished it, just don't. The books definitely go downhill after the first one. Just read the first one and not any others. But I definitely say DO NOT READ SINNER. It was an added afterthought, and it should NOT EXIST!!
Anyway... Back to Shiver XD I loved the relationship in this book between Sam and Grace. Makes me grin every time. It is so sweet, and I just love the way Sam and Grace don't have the typical clingy relationship like every other YA book. It's a real relationship, with the way Grace goes to school, comes home, does her homework while Sam reads, and they're just content with each others' company. They don't have to be staring intently at each other every second, or making out. They love who the other is, and it's just perfect.

Ingredient Seven: Cherry
Represents my favourite book I've read this year

I'm super surprised to say I have a lot of favourite books I've read this year, but I have to say my favourite is Ready Player One, which I already listed. After that, it would be Illuminae, and then Crown's Game, and then Black Ice. But Pretty Little Liars needs a mention in there too! Too many to say XD So yeahp, just listed them all. I initially didn't like Crown's Game much, but thinking back on it, it's growing on me. I also kind of want to mention Night Circus, but I'm not sure I can, as I've only just started it. You'll definitely see me mentioning it soon when it's done!

Thanks guys for reading this Tag :) I'll most certainly be on soon with another one!

My Books (and rages about them)

So I just wanted to introduce you guys to my bookshelves :D Sadly they aren't with me at the moment, as they're up at my parents' place, which I recently moved out of. So I'll just look at these when I miss them. I know this one's blurry (didn't realise at the time). I was going to make this post yesterday, but it was raining at my parents', so it was too dark to properly see all of the books. As you can see, I have a looooot, I think around 500-600. And I also recently just got rid of the box of books yesterday, when I spent a few hours reorganising and tidying these shelves. I hate running out of room for books :( Also these shelves are double-stacked... I chose to hide the ugly ones (the second-hand ones I bought from the library for like 50c XD) This was the shelf that I was having real trouble with (as it faces away from the window) but I think I got there. I can't believe I even now have gaps in my shelves due to saying goodbye to some of my b...

Welcome to me!

Hi guys :) So this is the equivalent of a BookTube channel. :p I really wanted to make one, but was way too freaked about the cameras, so here I am. I know it's really not the same, but I'm definitely more myself through typing rather than through camera, and I wanted to do something like this. So yeah, my name's Maddie, and welcome to my blog :) I have no idea how often I'll make posts, but I'll try to put up book reviews, and I'll definitely be doing book tags, as the BookTubers do :p Probably once a day :p I might even run out of book tags haha. So a little about me: I'm from New Zealand (or the future, as many people say), home of Lord of the Rings and Narnia.  I'm 19 and love reading, as well as listening to music (pop and classical) and wasting time on Goodreads :p I also feel like I waste time (and money) at university, but hey, can't spend my whole life doing what I love :p I am a hoarder. That is a fact. I have my own personal library...
