So I just wanted to introduce you guys to my bookshelves :D Sadly they aren't with me at the moment, as they're up at my parents' place, which I recently moved out of. So I'll just look at these when I miss them.
I know this one's blurry (didn't realise at the time). I was going to make this post yesterday, but it was raining at my parents', so it was too dark to properly see all of the books. As you can see, I have a looooot, I think around 500-600. And I also recently just got rid of the box of books yesterday, when I spent a few hours reorganising and tidying these shelves. I hate running out of room for books :( Also these shelves are double-stacked... I chose to hide the ugly ones (the second-hand ones I bought from the library for like 50c XD)
This was the shelf that I was having real trouble with (as it faces away from the window) but I think I got there. I can't believe I even now have gaps in my shelves due to saying goodbye to some of my books! It's like never happened before. I mean, I suppose you could say I don't have gaps, because they're double-stacked, but just hush XD
Alright now onto the real topic of this post: Things I don't like about physical books. I've taken examples from my shelves too.
With my Cassandra Clare selection (ignore the missing books, I've not got them in that stack at the moment as I'm currently reading Clockwork Angel) and my Robert Muchamore collection, as you can see, they are all different sizes.... This is something I really don't like. Just because I bought some a few months late, they no longer sold the big size. Or, I suppose, because I bought the other ones too early, the small format wasn't available yet. So now I have to put up with these.
Something else that nags me about books is that the initial large format price is like 1/4 of the price more expensive than the smaller format. So when I can, I tend to wait until the smaller format comes out (depending on the sizes of my other books and how badly I want this one).
Oh yeah, also we don't even have hardback options for majority of our new books. We only have the big format (like in my Clare stack above). No idea why..
One more thing is the font size... I read my books based on font size (and cover of course). I never ever read the blurb of books. I find that even the blurb spoils the whole book. So I dive into basically every book with no clue about anything, apart from the font size :p
I was talking to my friend Jacquelyn the other day about book pricing in the US compared to book pricing here (in NZ), and holy crap they are so different! I wish I lived in the US! A typical hardback book here (when they are available) is around $35, which is $24.03 USD, and a paperback is $22-25 NZD ($15-17USD). I realised that a typical paperback in America is around $7USD, and a hardback like $12!? What is this craziness! It is soo not fair!! But now that I've discovered bookdepository, the buying starts again (mwahahahaha sorry bank balance :p)
Oh yeah just found another picture I took :p
My issue with THIS set of books and ones similar to this (such as my set of Percy Jackson books) is THAT THEY HAVE DIFFERENT COVERS! I hate it when they change the covers for some reason, and you have no choice but to buy the odd one. Man it grates my nerves! Aaaand it's the wrong size! Just looks so odd :( I feel sorry for the Maze Runner.
Alrighty, I think that's me done this time :p That was a lot longer than I initially thought... My next post will most likely be my review/rage of Clockwork Angel, which I'll put up tonight, and yes it will have spoilers :)
